But now that i see this, it may have been random change that it worked. Then I did today’s system updates via Synapticwhich seemed to include a new kernel? Did you disable NetworkManager from running on start?

The mystery part begins here. When I woke up this morning, heard my laptop fan running because of a dialog box that needed attention, which in itself to me is a bug. This affects me too. Results 1 to 6 of 6. So I decided to do “rfkill unblock all” and sure enough my laptop wireless was unblocked and the usb dongle aheros unblocked, so I tried to use my laptop wireless and it connect and disconnect 3 or 4 times, then went back to hardblock.

I tried it for a while but found there was no difference could see all networks but only connect to unsecured ones. Don’t know if this situation is related to running the updates this morning, or solely from pressing the physical wifi button on my Wirelesx Presario CQDX laptop.
Exactly why that is happening is unclear at this point. How is your Wicd configured?
